Yeah, I just discovered that. The problem is the $ sign in the patch name,
which ends up also in the patch file name, which ends up getting messed up
when curl is called because the shell interperets it as an environment
variable. It's already fixed in the latest version of darcs, I think... I
haven't tried it out yet. But I just a few days ago switched to use system
as seldom as possible to avoid just this kind of problem (except that I was
thinking in terms of security holes, with people intentionally injecting
shell metacharacters).
It turns out my plan b also doesn't work, although I haven't yet pinned
down why. :( So bootstrapping darcs on the Mac remains elusive...
I hope to soon release a 0.9.13 version, which will have both of these
things fixed. libcurl should work on mac--it does for me already, and
hopefully I'll be able to make sure the external curl configuration also
works. Right now the thing holding 0.9.13 up is that I'm getting sporadic
failures to download files on the mac with the libcurl version. Once I've
figured that out, I think I'll go ahead and release 0.9.13, which should
make things easier for mac folks.
