Maybe a hint for the grep man and info pages would be a first step.
(in case darcs uses regexes compatible to grep regex, which isn't
confirmed yet).

In physical books, there's a full O'Reilly title just about Regexp,
and "Unix Power Tools" and "learning perl"contain nice introductions.
