Sorry, I've been away for the past 2 weeks and am having trouble
reconstructing this message thread (despite mutt threading).
Am I correct in understanding that this has been fixed by upgrading to
1.0.8 or is this something completely different?
Thoughts
--------
1) Putty SSH does not have a control master feature.
2) I think/hope that The error message is "harmless". Upon getting
this response from putty-ssh, darcs understands that it does not
support CM and therefore goes through the normal painstaking route.
If it is just a matter of spurious error messages, one solution
might be to do the Windows equivalent of sending error messages (during
this check) to /dev/null.
Note that we don't have this issue under Unix, because the stderr
output during the CM check already goes to /dev/null
3) I'd rather not disable CM functionality for Windows, because that
would deprive OpenSSH users under Win of their CM. Perhaps we
could detect that the ssh in question is putty and if so, assume
we don't have CM capability.
4) It is expected that darcs create a darcs-ssh directory somewhere
under the tmp directory. What would not be normal is if the
directory was being created somewhere else.
5) What *should* happen if you do a darcs pull on some nonsense
ssh path is that it complains about it not being an darcs
repository... the fact that we only get the (spurious) ssh
error is worrisome
