I wonder if this is not maybe a bit too much on the technical
side. I imagine the average user having to add one or a few
boring regexps of her own just this once, who would be
frustrated to have to read a terse specification, but probably
helped enough by a short and simple explanation and some
illustrative examples, preferably with a further link to the
full spec (e.g., the above link).

Unfortunately I don't know of any such page, and the above one
is certainly much better than nothing at all.
