This is a big, big performance win when pushing over ssh, and,
impressively enough, it's completely transparent.  If you're using
darcs over ssh, I strongly recommend upgrading darcs to 1.0.7 and the
OpenSSH client to version 4.  I'm not sure whether the server needs
upgrading too (does anyone know?).

On this subject -- we're always short on Windows developers.  If
you're a reasonably competent Windows person, you'd be doing us a
favour by tracking the unstable branch and checking regularly that it
doesn't break.  Even if you don't know Haskell.
