Perhaps, but I don't know how.
I have used unsafePerformIO before to spit out warnings in non-IO when I
couldn't be bothered with a monad, but I still don't have a good feel
for how it would behave. Also, I don't know how to make the first
legitimate call to ssh "depend" on the call to the ssh control master
check so that the check will be performed when need be. Anyway, I think
the patch I just sent should fix the problem.
