I've never had this happen to me.

I think that means it's mostly stable.  The developers seem to be
focussing on some of the core problems (like conflict resolution),
since there do not seem to be glaring bugs in the current release.

I'm not sure how good that is as a backup.  Tailor does a great job
of converting from one SCM to another, but the return trip is likely
lossy, if it is even possible.  If you do use tailor, I would
recommend subversion over CVS, since it will at least keep your
changesets grouped nicely together.

I have not found any that I like more than darcs.  Every once and a
while I wish darcs had some nice eye candy similar to gitk, but maybe
that will come some day.
