OTOH, having those merge patches makes you be able to quickly pull even
if there is no recent tag. in darcs, you are recommeneded to make a tag
after every 1000th (or so) patch, otherwise pull becomes quite slow.

i just wanted to note that in darcs you still need such
extra/content-less patches ;-/
