It's just an observation I had, I wasn't demanding anyone change the way darcs works. I use darcs because it's conceptually very simple as a user, and great care has already been taken over its UI. It just suddenly occurred to me that after using it for years that this little thing was bugging me. (It might help to add that I'm a Mac user, and little things bug me easily.)

As another observation, I noticed when I was playing around with this that darcs paginates the output of --help, where git doesn't. But I couldn't care less about this.

The fiddliest thing is getting colour, pagination and piping in general working together. I realised after a bit that always outputting colour codes meant some aliases I was used to piping now send out ANSI codes. It might take me a bit of work to get this how I like it. The only advantage of darcs (optionally) firing up a paginator might be it knows better when and when not to send control characters.
