On IRC, mornfall found a link to the writeup in question:

They also pointed to a later idea they had which is written up at
http://paradise.fi.muni.cz/~xrockai/dvs.html, with a note to "ignore the bit
about whitespace on edges, that turned out to be a bad idea".
